About This Activity

We begin our half-day trip at 09:30 in the morning, where you will be picked up and driven to one of our carefully selected spice farms located in Kizimbani, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Stone Town. The journey offers a chance to admire the scenic surroundings as we head towards the farm. Once we arrive, you will be welcomed with a guided tour of the spice farm, where you will learn about the rich variety of spices and tropical fruits grown in the region. The farm is home to some of the most important spices, including cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom, as well as an array of fresh fruits. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to inhale the amazing smells and taste the fresh spices and fruits directly from the plants.

As you explore the farm, you will also get the chance to harvest some of the most important ingredients that will be used in our traditional cooking class. These locally grown spices and fruits will form the foundation of the authentic Zanzibar cuisine you will prepare later. The knowledgeable farm guides will share fascinating insights into the cultivation, uses, and history of each plant, deepening your understanding of Zanzibar’s unique spice heritage.

After the spice tour, we will head to a local home, where a skilled local woman will guide you through the process of preparing and cooking a traditional Zanzibari meal. You will be taught the techniques behind making dishes that are full of rich flavors and aromatic spices, with an emphasis on the fresh, organic ingredients you just harvested. Under her expert instruction, you will learn how to combine various spices and cooking methods to create an authentic, delicious meal. Once the cooking is complete, you will have the pleasure of enjoying the homemade meal together, savoring the flavors of Zanzibar in the company of your fellow participants.

Around 2:00 PM, we will begin our journey back to Stone Town or your hotel, reflecting on the enriching experience of the day. Whether you’re a food lover or a cultural enthusiast, this tour offers a memorable and educational adventure into Zanzibar’s spice world and culinary traditions.
