The end of March to the end of July is a crucial time in all the floating villages, as the water levels start to recede and present a unique opportunity for tourists to experience a new perspective.
Although the picturesque landscape of the floating community may lose some of its charm during this time, visitors have a chance to immerse themselves in the daily life of the villagers living in the dried season.

My partner and I loved this tour because it felt authentic rather than touristy. The drive out to the lake showed us rural Cambodia, which already set the tone. On the water, the guide explained how the villagers adapt depending on the season, which was fascinating. We especially enjoyed the floating village—it felt like stepping into a different rhythm of life. The sunset cruise was quiet, romantic, and a beautiful way to end the day.

The floating village was interesting to see and definitely gave us a sense of the local way of life, but we felt the tour could have been a little longer. The boat ride was beautiful, and our guide gave lots of insights into how families adapt to the lake’s changing water levels. The sunset was gorgeous, but because of clouds, it wasn’t quite as dramatic as we had hoped. Still, overall it was worth it and gave us a unique look at Cambodian culture.
