About This Activity

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Thailand with this full-day tour to two of the country's most iconic and culturally rich markets: the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and the Maeklong Railway Market. This exciting adventure combines tradition, history, and local flavors, giving you a unique perspective on Thai culture. From the moment you begin, you will be immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of these bustling markets, each offering a window into the daily life of Thai people.

Your day begins with an early morning departure from Bangkok, where you’ll be picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. As you travel towards the Maeklong Railway Market, you'll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic views along the way. The journey to the market takes you through picturesque landscapes and offers a glimpse of rural Thailand, preparing you for the incredible experience ahead.

Upon arriving at the Maeklong Railway Market, you will witness one of the most unique sights in Thailand. This market, located directly on the railway tracks, is often called the "umbrella pulldown market." As a train approaches, vendors swiftly pull back their awnings and goods, making way for the train to pass through the market. It’s a thrilling sight that captures the essence of Thai ingenuity and the close-knit relationship between locals and their environment. The market is renowned for its fresh seafood, which is sold right on the tracks, and the quick movements of the vendors are a fascinating sight to behold.

After spending some time exploring the Maeklong Railway Market and taking in the energy of the surroundings, you will continue your journey to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Located about 1.5 hours from the railway market, this iconic market offers a completely different experience. Known for its vibrant colors and chaotic energy, the floating market is a true reflection of Thai life. Upon arrival, you'll board a long-tail boat and glide through the narrow canals, where vendors sell a wide variety of products from their boats. You’ll see everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to local handicrafts and traditional snacks, all while drifting peacefully along the water.

The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a photographer’s paradise, offering the perfect opportunity to capture the beauty of traditional Thai markets. As you float along, you will also have the chance to sample some of the local delicacies that make Thai cuisine so renowned. Expect to taste tom yum soup, mango sticky rice, fresh tropical fruits, and delicious coconut sugar candy. The vibrant flavors of Thai food will enhance your experience, allowing you to savor the true taste of the country’s culture.

In addition to the food and shopping, this tour provides a unique opportunity to learn about Thailand’s agricultural and economic systems. The market is not just a place for commerce; it’s also a vital source of water for agriculture. The canals were originally built by locals to irrigate their crops, and the Damnoen Saduak canal system continues to serve this purpose today. As you navigate the waterways, your guide will explain the history of the market and its importance to the local economy.

After exploring the floating market and enjoying some free time to shop and take in the atmosphere, you will board the boat back to the shore. From there, you'll return to your air-conditioned vehicle and begin your journey back to Bangkok. On the way back, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the day’s experiences, as you drive through the scenic landscapes back towards the bustling city.

This full-day tour offers more than just a chance to visit two of Thailand’s most famous markets; it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the daily rhythms of Thai life. The friendly vendors, the colorful sights, and the fresh, vibrant food all combine to create an experience that you’ll never forget. Whether you’re a foodie, a culture enthusiast, or simply someone looking to explore Thailand’s unique heritage, this tour has something for everyone.

By the time you return to your hotel, you will have a deeper understanding of Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, and you’ll have memories that will last a lifetime. We had a fantastic trip! The train market was an absolute must-see—such a unique and unforgettable experience. The floating market was also great, with plenty of opportunities for picking up souvenirs and gifts. Our guide, Mr. Aekaphol, was attentive, friendly, and really looked after us throughout the day. He also gave us plenty of helpful tips for the rest of our stay in Bangkok and even for other spots in Thailand. After the floating market, we enjoyed a delicious lunch for just around £2—fresh, flavorful, and a great value. The drive to the train station took a little over an hour, but we had a break along the way, and the air-conditioned minibus made the journey quite comfortable. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bangkok!

We really enjoyed the experience at the train and train market—it may be a bit of a tourist trap, but sometimes that’s exactly the kind of fun you’re looking for when exploring a new place! Great for shopping, and plenty of fantastic photo opportunities. Our guide, Ryan, was very informative, helpful, and made the whole tour smooth and enjoyable.

The tour was absolutely fantastic—and Jenny made it even more special! She’s hands down the best tour guide we’ve ever had. Warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive, she truly made the day unforgettable. If you’re visiting Bangkok, I highly recommend this tour—and if you can, request Jenny by name! The floating market and train market were both fascinating, and it's a good idea to bring some cash to support the local vendors. Also, a friendly reminder: please follow the safety instructions at the train market. We saw quite a few tourists dangerously standing in the train’s path just for a photo. Safety first—enjoy responsibly!

Grandma Lucky was such a wonderful guide—warm, knowledgeable, and full of interesting insights! The Train Market is truly an experience not to be missed, and I highly recommend choosing a tour that includes the train ride into the market—it adds so much to the excitement. The long-tail boat ride to the Floating Market was a great part of the experience too. Watching vendors sell everything from food to souvenirs from their boats was fascinating. We decided not to hire a paddle boat (which costs around THB 150 per person) and instead explored the market on foot, which was just as enjoyable. We found a place to sit and enjoy some delicious food—be sure to negotiate prices, as they can vary a lot. We paid THB 200 for a tasty seafood Tom Yum, THB 100 for morning glory (kangkung), and THB 40 for two bowls of rice. We brought our own water, but the tour guide kindly gave us a cold bottle before we headed back to Bangkok in the van.
