About This Activity

Experience a captivating 3-day guided journey from Marrakech to Fes, discovering Morocco's imperial cities, stunning desert landscapes, and cultural treasures along the way.

Day 1: Marrakech — Aït Benhaddou — Dades Valley

Your journey begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Marrakech, heading towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains. Enjoy panoramic views as you traverse winding mountain roads before stopping at the iconic Kasbah Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a guided walk through the historic village, known for its stunning clay architecture and rich history. After a leisurely lunch, continue northeast, passing through the bustling city of Ouarzazate, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Desert." Arrive at the Dades Valley, where you'll marvel at the breathtaking sunset views along the Dades River. End your day with dinner and an overnight stay at a charming local kasbah, surrounded by the valley's dramatic landscapes.

Day 2: Dades Valley — Tinghir — Merzouga

Begin your day with breakfast at your kasbah, then travel along the scenic Road of 1001 Kasbahs, a route dotted with picturesque fortresses and villages. Stop at the oasis town of Tinghir, where you'll take a peaceful walk along the river leading to the dramatic Todra Gorge. Spend some time soaking in the gorge’s towering rock walls and serene surroundings. In the afternoon, head towards the desert town of Merzouga, where the highlight of your journey awaits: a camel ride through the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. Watch the mesmerizing sunset as you make your way to a traditional desert camp nestled among the dunes. Enjoy an authentic Moroccan dinner under the starlit sky, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of nomadic Berber drumming. Choose to spend the night in a cozy basic tent or upgrade to a luxury tent with modern amenities for added comfort.

Day 3: Merzouga — Fes

Wake up early to witness the magical sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, a moment of pure serenity. After breakfast at the camp, begin your journey to Fes, traveling along the picturesque Ziz Valley. Pass through lush palm oases and ancient ksours (fortified castles) that stand as reminders of Morocco's rich history. Stop for lunch in the charming town of Midelt, nestled between the Middle Atlas Mountains. Continue your journey through the Middle Atlas, where you'll notice a dramatic shift in scenery, transitioning from the arid desert to lush, green cedar forests. Along the way, pass through Erfoud, renowned for its fascinating fossils and rich geological heritage. Arrive in Fes by evening, where your driver will drop you off at your riad or hotel, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.

We had the pleasure of taking our desert tour with Ajbli, who truly went out of his way to ensure we had an amazing time. He was very knowledgeable, engaging, and fun, and his professionalism made the long journeys much more enjoyable. The desert experience in Erg Chebbi was absolutely worth it, with the towering dunes and the evening celebration at the camp being the most memorable parts of the trip. While some aspects of the tour could be improved, these were clearly beyond Ajbli’s control. The restaurants chosen by the tour company were of poor quality, and given that we had little choice in the matter, they should have either been included in the tour price or better alternatives offered. The visit to Ait Benhaddou also felt quite touristy. Overall, Ajbli was an exceptional guide and the highlight of the tour, and we would highly recommend him to others.

We did a 3-day tour from Marrakech to Fes with Houssain in the Ford, and it was a very positive experience. Houssain was excellent—friendly, punctual, and organized every part of the trip perfectly. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience the desert and travel from Marrakech to Fes.
