About This Activity

Begin your journey with a convenient pickup from your preferred location in Lisbon, setting the stage for a day of discovery. Your first destination is the Serra de Sintra, a mountain range renowned for its lush forests and fairy-tale palaces. Here, you'll visit the Pena Palace, a 19th-century Romanticist castle perched atop a hill. Its vibrant colors and eclectic architecture make it one of Portugal's most iconic landmarks. As you explore the palace and its expansive gardens, your guide will share insights into its history and the royal family who once resided there.

After immersing yourself in the splendor of Pena Palace, you'll descend to the historic village of Sintra. Wander through its narrow, winding streets, lined with traditional shops, cafes, and pastry shops. This is the perfect opportunity to sample the local delicacy, travesseiros, a sweet puff pastry filled with almond cream. The village's charming atmosphere and well-preserved architecture have earned it a designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Continuing your adventure, you'll head towards the Atlantic coast, stopping at Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Here, rugged cliffs drop dramatically into the ocean, offering panoramic views that are both awe-inspiring and humbling. A stone monument marks this geographic landmark, and the area provides ample opportunities for stunning photographs.

The journey then takes you along the scenic coastline to the fishing village of Cascais. Once a royal retreat, Cascais boasts beautiful beaches, a lively marina, and a charming old town with cobblestone streets. Explore the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Luz, which historically protected the town from invaders, and visit the Cidadela Art District, where contemporary art installations contrast with the historic setting. Enjoy some leisure time to stroll along the waterfront, visit local boutiques, or relax at a seaside café.

As the day draws to a close, your guide will drive you back to Lisbon, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing end to your tour. Throughout the journey, your private guide will provide personalized attention, sharing stories and answering questions to enrich your experience. This full-day excursion offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical landmarks, and cultural insights, making it an unforgettable addition to your Portuguese adventure.

We really enjoyed our trip to Cascais and Sintra with our guide, Luis. He shared a lot of historical information during the journey. Before leaving Lisbon, we stopped at Pastis de Belem to enjoy some pastries and coffee. Luis also booked a lunch reservation for us at a lovely restaurant perched on the cliffs with ocean views. It was a wonderful day!

Joao was an outstanding guide! He made sure to accommodate our 8-month-old baby and adjusted the tour to steer clear of large crowds in the heat. We're really glad we chose the private tour to avoid the hassle of driving and parking in Sintra ourselves.
