About This Activity

Your adventure begins in Hanoi late in the evening as you board an air-conditioned sleeper train to Lao Cai. Spend a restful night onboard in a shared cabin or upgrade to a private one as the countryside slips by under moonlight. Arrive early the next morning refreshed and ready to explore.

From Lao Cai, a comfortable transfer takes you along winding mountain roads into the Hoang Lien Son range, where cool air and dramatic vistas welcome you. On arrival in Sapa, settle into your hotel and prepare for your first taste of village trekking. After breakfast, your guided walk leads to Cat Cat village, home to the H’Mong people. Wander among terraced fields and local homes as your guide introduces you to traditional crafts, clothing, and daily routines. Observe weaving, hear local stories, and perhaps join in friendly conversations.

This is a unique chance to see life largely untouched by modern pressures — slow your pace, soak in the culture, and experience the rhythm of mountain life. Later, return to your hotel to relax and reflect on the day.

On day two, trek deeper into the mountains along old buffalo paths connecting Lao Chai, Ta Van, and Giang Ta Chai villages. Meet Black H’Mong, Dzao, and Dzay communities living amidst spectacular terraces. Descend valley floors, pass emerald paddies, and learn from your guide about local flora, farming techniques, and seasonal cycles. Pause in village clusters to chat with residents before returning to Sapa for a farewell dinner and transfer back to Lao Cai for your overnight train home.

Board the sleeper train and watch the landscapes fade into night. Arrive in Hanoi at dawn, carrying new memories, stories, and a deeper appreciation for Vietnam’s hill-tribe heritage. Over two days, you’ll walk through remote villages, share local meals, and experience a side of Vietnam few travelers see.

They were very flexible, allowing us to confirm at 7 AM the same morning, and accommodated us without any issues. We did a two-day soft trekking tour around Sapa, which was amazing. Our guide, Ca, was fantastic! She’s a young woman from a Black H’mong village and impressed us in so many ways. Her English was excellent, and she had extensive knowledge about Vietnam and her village, answering all our questions. After visiting the Sapa market, we walked about an hour to her village, enjoying the stunning views along the way. We met her family, who were very kind and welcoming, and had lunch prepared by Ca. It was easily one of the best meals I had in Vietnam. This was a truly memorable experience that we will never forget.

The night on the train was manageable; we slept on the two upper bunks, which have space for luggage and feel safer. You sleep from sheer tiredness. The transfer from Lao Cai to Sapa was a bit tight—we were all in a Ford Transit with the bags in the middle (bring some motion sickness medicine because of all the curves). Sapa is breathtaking, beautiful, and unforgettable! At the Sunny Mountain Hotel, even if your room isn’t ready, you can shower in the spa area. The first trek is long but stunning, and you get to meet local people. If it’s rained, or if you see the guide wearing water boots, definitely rent some—you’ll get very muddy. The first meal at the homestay was excellent. The second trek to CatCat Village is quieter but very touristy, with many stairs down. The return climb under the hot sun is tough but manageable. Gia, our local guide, was wonderful on both days. We highly recommend this tour!

Fantastic guides with excellent English, incredible scenery, and delicious food. We spent one night in a local Hmong house, which was the highlight of our entire three-week trip in Vietnam. Highly recommended!

The tour was well organized. Unfortunately, Sapa itself is quite littered, and you need to walk a bit further to find cleaner areas. The hike was led by local women who were extremely kind and friendly, although they do try to sell something at the end. We wanted to tip them anyway, so it was a good opportunity, and 100,000 Dong (around 4 EUR) is a small amount.
