About This Activity

Step away from Istanbul’s bustling tourist areas and immerse yourself in its hidden history and culture. This tour invites you to explore the quieter, more authentic sides of the city while uncovering architectural marvels and indulging in flavors unique to the region.

Begin your journey at Şehzade Mosque, a magnificent structure built in the 16th century in memory of a young prince. Learn the mysterious story of the prince's death and marvel at the stunning architecture of this lesser-known gem.

Walk along the Roman Valens Aqueducts, a 6th-century engineering marvel that once supplied water to the ancient city. Feel the history as you stroll under these monumental arches, far from the crowds.

Your next stop is the Zeyrek Mosque, once part of the Pantokrator Church Complex built in 1118 AD. This site reflects Istanbul’s layered history, transitioning from a Byzantine church to an Ottoman mosque, and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

Enjoy a visit to the Fatih Local Market, where fresh produce, spices, and delicacies from southeastern Turkey fill the air with vibrant aromas. Here, you’ll get a taste of authentic Kurdish cuisine at a local restaurant. Savor the famous Buryan Kebab, a lamb dish slow-cooked in a clay oven for five hours, and experience true culinary craftsmanship.

No tour of this area would be complete without a stop at Vefa, where you’ll taste the traditional drink Boza, served in the same historic shop for over 150 years. This sweet and tangy fermented beverage is a local favorite and a unique part of Istanbul’s cultural fabric.

This small-group tour is perfect for those who want to see a side of Istanbul rarely explored, offering a mix of history, culture, and authentic flavors in one unforgettable experience.

Mert was a fantastic guide who gave us fresh insight into Istanbul’s more familiar areas. He was happy to dive into the details and patiently answered all of our questions. His knowledge helped us see things from a cultural perspective we hadn’t considered before.

Having Mert as our guide made all the difference. He was incredibly thoughtful and adjusted the pace of the tour to accommodate my husband’s Parkinson’s. The places he chose were peaceful, full of local charm, and far from the typical tourist trail. The meal he recommended was one of the best we had in Turkey especially the pumpkin dessert. A heartfelt, memorable experience.
