About This Activity

Embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Hanoi, where history, culture, and charm blend seamlessly. This cyclo tour offers a perfect opportunity to explore the Old Quarter, one of Hanoi’s most iconic districts, filled with both French colonial architecture and traditional Vietnamese culture. As you glide through the maze of narrow streets and bustling markets, the cyclo provides a comfortable way to soak in the vibrant atmosphere, allowing you to relax while taking in the sights of this historic neighborhood.

The tour begins with a ride through the Old Quarter, the very soul of Hanoi. Known for its narrow streets lined with French colonial buildings, the area offers a unique mix of the old and the new. Here, you’ll pass by local markets, street vendors, and charming shops that showcase the best of Vietnamese craftsmanship. As you sit back in the cyclo, your driver will navigate you through the busy streets, giving you an authentic feel of Hanoi's daily life. With every turn, you’ll encounter something new—whether it's an old temple, a commemorative statue, or a bustling market square, the Old Quarter holds countless stories waiting to be discovered.

Next, the journey takes you to Hoan Kiem Lake, one of Hanoi’s most beloved landmarks. This serene and picturesque lake offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. As you stroll along the lake’s edge, you’ll catch glimpses of the Tortoise Tower, a small island in the middle of the lake, which has become a symbol of Hanoi’s rich cultural heritage. The calm waters of the lake reflect the towering trees and historic structures surrounding it, making it an ideal spot for photos. Your guide will explain the myth and legend behind Hoan Kiem Lake, which has deep significance in Vietnamese culture, particularly related to the sword of the ancient king and the turtle spirit.

After a relaxing visit to Hoan Kiem Lake, the tour continues to one of Hanoi’s most revered cultural sites—the Temple of Jade Mountain. Located on a small island in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake, this historical temple is dedicated to Tran Hung Dao, a national hero who led the Vietnamese forces to victory over the Mongol invaders. As you walk across the Welcoming Morning Sunlight Bridge, a wooden bridge that connects the mainland to the temple island, you’ll feel as though you’re stepping back in time. The temple’s intricate architecture and serene surroundings make it a perfect place to reflect on Vietnam’s past. The temple’s relics and statues are beautifully preserved, and your guide will share the fascinating history behind each artifact, bringing the story of the temple to life.

No visit to Hanoi would be complete without experiencing the famous Vietnamese egg coffee. At the end of the tour, you’ll be taken to a cozy local café that serves this unique and beloved drink. Egg coffee is made by mixing egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk, and Vietnamese coffee, resulting in a rich, creamy beverage that has become a signature part of Hanoi’s café culture. Your cup of egg coffee will be expertly prepared, complete with a delicate foam leaf design on top. The smooth texture and sweet, bold flavor make it an unforgettable treat that is sure to leave you craving more. Take your time to savor this delightful drink, and feel free to linger at the café after the tour ends. It’s the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day’s experiences.

Throughout the tour, your English-speaking guide will provide insightful commentary, explaining the history and cultural significance of each location. I arranged this tour for my parents, and overall they were happy with it. However, during the cyclo tour, since the guide was not with them in the vehicle, no one explained the sights or the history of the Old Quarter. They were on the cyclo the whole time without knowing what they were seeing. Perhaps an audio guide could have been provided at least.
