About This Activity

Upon arrival at our welcoming venue in Göreme, participants are greeted by expert instructors who are passionate about sharing the rich heritage of Turkish coffee. The session begins with an engaging introduction to the history and cultural importance of Turkish coffee, tracing its origins and evolution over the centuries. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for a deeper appreciation of the brewing process and its place in Turkish society.

Following the historical overview, participants are introduced to the traditional method of brewing coffee on sand. This distinctive technique involves using a cezve (a special Turkish coffee pot) placed in hot sand, allowing for precise temperature control and a unique flavor profile. Under the guidance of our skilled instructors, attendees have the opportunity to select from a variety of high-quality coffee beans and actively participate in the brewing process. This hands-on experience not only imparts practical skills but also fosters a deeper connection to the cultural practice.

Once the coffee is brewed to perfection, participants can savor their creations alongside traditional accompaniments, such as Turkish delight. This moment provides an opportunity to appreciate the rich flavors and aromas that define Turkish coffee culture. As the coffee is enjoyed, the session transitions into the intriguing art of fortune-telling, known locally as "fal." Our knowledgeable instructors demonstrate how to interpret the patterns left by coffee grounds in the cup, a practice that has been a cherished aspect of Turkish social life for generations. Participants are invited to try their hand at this tradition, adding an element of fun and personal insight to the experience.

To conclude the workshop, each participant receives a special gift set, including a traditional cezve, a cup set, and a selection of premium coffee beans. This thoughtful memento allows attendees to recreate the authentic Turkish coffee experience at home and share it with friends and family. The combination of hands-on learning, cultural immersion, and take-home gifts ensures that this workshop is a highlight of any visit to Cappadocia.

We did this activity out of curiosity and loved it! The girl who taught us how to make coffee is very kind and friendly, and she also explains interesting facts about coffee and Turkish culture. After preparing Turkish coffee ourselves, we tasted it with various sweets. Finally, reading the coffee grounds was surprising... I don't know if she will be right about the future, but she was spot on about the past and present! Recommended!

The History of Turkish Coffee was incredible, only to be surpassed by the reading. She started with “I am not a fortune teller”. Then proceeded to share with me things that the coffee cup showed here that were literally happening in my life in real time. From my relationship to a music instrument to issues with my family of origins. I was very surprised and grateful for the experience.
