About This Activity

Sandland (Antalya Sand Sculpture Museum) is one of the world’s oldest, most prestigious, and largest sand sculpture events, held annually since 2006. Known for its massive scale, the event features hundreds of sand sculptures made by international artists. With an expansive area, numerous participating artists, and a remarkable amount of sand used, Sandland stands out for its artistic achievements. As a unique form of ephemeral art, the sand sculptures are temporary creations that symbolize the impermanence of life. Each year, international sculptors use only water and river sand to craft these awe-inspiring works. These sculptures can reach several tons in weight and meters in height, capturing the attention of every visitor.

The sculptures are displayed for a limited time, usually between April and October, with the artworks destroyed afterward, making way for new creations. This philosophy of transience highlights that nothing lasts forever and everything will eventually fade away. Located on the famous Lara Beach of Antalya, the exhibition spans 7,000 square meters and uses over 10,000 tons of river sand. The breathtaking works are a result of three weeks of continuous performances by artists from various parts of the world.

The Sandland exhibition is open to visitors every day, offering a unique opportunity to witness these stunning sculptures. As the world’s first and only 12-month open exhibition, it is available year-round. From May 1st to November 1st, the museum is open daily from 09:00 to 23:00, and from November 1st to May 1st, it operates from 09:00 to 19:00.

The theme for this year’s exhibition is "Space Adventure". This engaging and educational theme chronicles humanity's journey into space. The exhibit includes sculptures of key figures and events in space exploration, such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, Hazerfen Çelebi, Zeppelin, Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, the Columbia Space Shuttle, SpaceX Dragon 2 Capsule, the Mars Space Colony, and the planets of the Solar System. Additionally, famous space-themed characters from Star Wars, Star Trek, Wall-E, Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fifth Element, and Interstellar are also brought to life in the exhibition.

Visitors have the chance to explore space through high-powered telescopes, where they can observe the sun, moon, and planets on a large screen. The exhibition is designed to engage everyone, from children to adults. Younger visitors can participate in the Magic Sand Castle area, using kinetic sand to create their first works of art.

Located by the sea, the Sandland exhibition offers a variety of additional activities for visitors. These include options like ATV safaris, water sports, and other exciting events. In the evenings, the sculptures are illuminated by LED lights, creating a magical atmosphere, further enhanced by music that aligns with the exhibition’s theme. In the museum’s café, visitors can also watch a documentary about the process of creating the sculptures on a large LED screen, providing deeper insight into the artistry behind the sand sculptures.

What an incredible display of talent! Sandland is a must-see attraction in Antalya. The space theme was executed beautifully, with sculptures ranging from historical space pioneers to sci-fi movie characters. I was amazed by how durable yet detailed these sand creations were. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, happy to explain different pieces. The combination of art, science and entertainment makes this appealing for all ages. Don't miss the chance to see these temporary masterpieces before they're gone!

As an art teacher, I was thoroughly impressed by Sandland. The scale and precision of these sand sculptures is astounding - some towers several meters high with incredible detail. The space exploration theme was both educational and visually stunning. My students particularly enjoyed identifying all the sci-fi characters. The kinetic sand area was a brilliant interactive addition. The evening lighting show added another dimension to the experience. This unique open-air museum showcases the incredible potential of ephemeral art. Highly recommended!

We took our two little ones, and they were completely mesmerized by the sculptures. The “Space Adventure” theme was perfect for kids and adults alike—seeing planets, astronauts, and even characters from Wall-E and Star Wars made it really fun. The Magic Sand Castle area was a huge hit, and my kids spent ages building their own creations. The evening lighting and music added a magical touch we didn’t expect.

I visited Sandland alone and ended up spending nearly three hours wandering through the exhibits. The scale of the sculptures is impressive, and I appreciated how much detail the artists put into each piece. Watching the space-themed works under the evening LED lights with music was unexpectedly beautiful. Definitely a unique museum experience that feels very different from typical art or history exhibits.
